Gainesville Police Reserve Unit
The Gainesville Police Department is augmented by a volunteer unit of sworn police officers known as Police Reserves. The GPD Reserve Unit consists of regular citizens who are certified as FL law enforcement officers, but may have taken a job in another field.
The members of the Unit may be used to provide additional staffing at special events, the Crime Prevention Unit, the Operations Bureau as backup officers, to take walk-in reports, and/or perform other assignments as needed within the Department. Upon successful completion of the GPD field training program, a reserve officer could report to shift briefing, check out a patrol car, and be assigned to a zone in the city to answer calls for a shift. Members of the Reserve Unit are required to contribute a minimum of 20 hours of service per month.
The reserve program affords the opportunity for citizens who are sworn as FL law enforcement officers to serve the community in a very specialized capacity, and the opportunity to work and train with one of Florida’s premier law enforcement agencies.
*The selection criteria and process for Reserve Officers shall be identical to that required for entry level Police Officers.
