District 2 includes the east side of Gainesville and is commanded by Captain Jaime Kurnick.
Captain Jaime Kurnick is originally from Buffalo, New York. She began her career with the Gainesville Police Department in January of 2001 in the Operations Division. Over her career, she has worked in the following assignments: Patrol, Detectives Division, Training Division, Mounted Patrol Unit, Crime Analysis Unit, Crime Prevention Unit, Violent Crimes Taskforce, and the Community Action Team. She excels in innovative programs while partnering with businesses, universities, and research groups in order to prevent crimes and impact our overall crime rates. She consistently emphasizes the need for community policing in every law enforcement effort no matter the situation as it will help develop and build community trust.
CaptainKurnick has earned her Bachelor Of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminology from State University of New York at Plattsburgh. During her career, she has been an adjunct instructor for all areas of the SFCC IPS Police Academy to include firearms, defensive tactics and driving. She is very involved in local charities and believes in participating in the United Way Campaign, the March of Dimes Campaign, and the Gainesville Little Ones (GLO) campaign. She has served as the Chair for both GRU and General Government for both the United Way and GLO. Captain Jaime Kurnick has been an advocate of community policing through her consistent involvement in the multiple community programs to include National Night Out, Heroes and Helpers, Shop with a Cop, and Silver Santa programs.
